Woohoo! We're finally having our meet up!
Speaking of meetups. Greg over at Smedley's Smorgasboard of Kindergarten calls his whole group area the "monster pit" to go along with his monster theme - I love it! I am totally stealing that name for our carpet area this year! By the way, totally love his blog - it's always nice to have a male persepctive on things! You should definitely head over and say hi!
At this point I have to give a shout out to one of my favorite teachers at my school, Mr. Thompson. He teaches 2nd grade and has had both of my older sons. He is fabulous! He challenged my gifted oldest and fostered his independence and leadership attributes. He also managed to bring my middle son from remedial reading and math all the way to advanced! My hat is definitely off to him and I wish there were more male teachers around - sometimes they just have that special way of looking at things or interacting with the kids that can make a world of difference!
Alright, thinking about the carpet area and meeting up naturally made me think about lining up - maybe because my carpet area is right by our hallway door. Anyways, I started thinking about line up songs/chants. I have quite a few that I've learned from colleagues, students and the internet. I compiled all of them into a freebie today, there are 13 different lining up songs in all! I cut all of mine out, laminated them and will put them on a ring near my hallway door. What I find is that singing the song while lining up naturally cuts down on chatter, plus it's a reminder to keep their hands to themselves etc. I like having lots of different songs to choose from so that they stay fresh - if you just sing one or two after a while they loose their effectiveness and some students are bound to try to talk over the song etc. Click a picture to grab them for free in my TPT store. As always, I'd love it if you'd Rustle Up a Response - either here or at TPT :)

These are great! I just downloaded them.
We call our group area The Learning Rug. We talk about what we need to do on the rug to help our brains do their best. We then take pictures of our learning rug promises and write about them. They are posted where everyone can see them.
I love your songs and everything goes so much smoother when you use a transition. =)
Thank you for sharing. =)

I wish I wasn't so far away, would love to meet up....and have cheesecake! You are so right about male teachers in primary school. My first male teacher (about 100 years ago!!) really turned the light bulbs on for me!
Thanks so much for sharing!! These are cute.

These are great, but I'm in CA and we don't have hallways :( we just walk outside so I may need to tweak them a bit.
Thanks! I love using different songs because they get bored and so do I. I will definitely make a ring by the door and try them.

Just found your blog from Mrs. Hodge and her kindergarteners. I teach in Adair Oklahoma. Would love to come to the blog meet up in OKC, but am unable to make it this week. It is always refreshing to find teachers in my neck of the woods. I love your line up chants. Our school was at one time a model school for GE...I love the aprons you all did. Thanks for your ideas.
