Random Pee and Poop

Did you know that when you're playing Word Find on Spelling City that it will accept "pee" as a legitimate word? And, that when "pee" is accepted into the word list in bold letters on the Smart Board, certain children will giggle uncontrollably for at least 5 minutes? That will teach me not to ignore that certain gleam in a student's eye, or at least to look at the letters available more closely so I can predict what word that certain student might be thinking of!

Oh by the way, chickens poop when you take them out of their cage to examine their feather development. A LOT. They also flutter and flap and cause certain students to SQUEAL like they're being stuck with hot pokers. Also, if you're holding a chicken above a student, it will choose that moment to let loose it's bowels, resulting in a nice splattering on the student's knee. Luckily it was the student who is not fazed in the slightest by such things. When a girl threw up all over his arm earlier in the year he just sat calmly with a look of "Yeah, I got vomit on me. Happens a lot. No big deal." and he got that same look today when the chicken unloaded on him. "No biggie, it'll wash off." Oh thank goodness it was him and not one of my squealers!


Thanks to everyone who replied to yesterday's post -I appreciate it! I have decided against replacing my duckling as I am not sure what caused them to die and I would hate to have new ones get sick. Our chickens are going to their forever home on Friday, so we wouldn't even have the ducklings for very long. I am going to chicken out (no pun intended) and just tell my kiddos that the ducks went to a farm early. I thought about having a whole death discussion and I'm just not up to it this late in the year. I have a few kiddos that would take it extremely hard, so I'll leave that issue alone for now.

Speaking of death. Did you hear that Maurice Sendak passed away today? I absolutely loved his books. In fact, way back when I was 17 years old and working in a toy store, I bought a Max doll and tucked it away for the day when I would have my own children and read them Where the Wild Things Are. Now of course they have all of the characters from the book. I think I might have to expand my collection! Here are some of my favorite quotes from him:

Another sudden subject change: I might have shot myself in the foot today because I ran into the Director of Elementary Ed. today and mentioned that I REALLY, REALLY want to teach Kindergarten next year. She said she has me "on her radar". Which was great, until I got to thinking that that might mean transferring to a different school if my principal doesn't put me in K next year. Not really feeling a school change. At. ALL. So, stay in the school I like, where my kids attend, but teach 1st, or get to teach K but have to transfer?! Man, I really can't stand being up in the air like this! Do I spend my summer working on K stuff or 1st grade stuff or neglect my family and do both? Decisions, decisions!

Sudden subject change #3: Do you give out awards or have a graduation ceremony? Our Kinder usually has a graduation ceremony but the teachers scrapped it this year in favor of a play instead. No awards now either. Not sure how I feel about that as a mama to a kinder this year lol! Thinking of giving out awards to my kiddos this year - but since they're already getting their Brag Tags, not sure if a paper certificate would be overkill.
